Burnside Farm woodcock with apple, juicy organic pears from Phantassie in East Lothian and local watercress from our friends at Scotherbs in Longforgan.

Linda Dick’s organic free-range chicken breast breaded and pan-fried, served with Carroll’s Heritage potatoes crushed with fresh thyme and Edinburgh’s own smoked bacon and local spinach cream.

…To name a few, but not forgetting Orkney Hand-dived Scallops, Burnside Farm Roe Deer, Lanark Blue, Loch Duart Salmon, Glencoe Mussels and East Lothian organic squash, celeriac and red cabbage which also feature on our January menu.

To celebrate, today we’ve launched our new Festive Menu packed with all the goodness of our winter larder and full of delicious dishes to warm you through! There’s something for everyone, including Stornoway Black Pudding served with our homemade cranberry compote and toasted walnut salad! Chargrilled Loch Duart salmon and baby roasted potatoes with watercress warm salad with homemade lemon drizzle dressing, then treat yourself to our East Lothian pear and cardamom crumble with lemon Graham’s Dairy Double cream. The delicious list goes on – yum!

The judging rounds were held earlier this year, with our dear friends Robert and Sylvia Wilson from Scotherbs joining us to share their herby secrets. Thank you Robert and Sylvia, the judges were impressed with all our efforts – well done!

It was a successful evening for Edinburgh, receiving a Silver Gilt Medal and two discretionary awards for “Sustainable Landscaping” for the grounds of Edinburgh Universities Pollock Halls and “Best Public Park” for the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh.

As a Grand Finale to Scottish Food & Drink Fortnight 2011, we are transforming the Scottish National Gallery, Gardens Entrance into a Supplier Day Exhibition where local supplier’s will showcase their produce and share tastings with the public in a collaborative celebration of Scotland’s fine food and drink.

Suppliers attending include: Cuddybridge Apple Juice; Peelham Farm; Manna House Bakery & Patisserie; Campbells Prime Meats; Scotherbs; Caledonian Breweries; H J Errington Cheese; Phantassie Organic Vegetables; Graham’s The Family Dairy; Summer Harvest Rapeseed Oils; Whitmuir Farm Organics; Findlay’s of Portobello; Crabbie’s Ginger Ale and Royal Mile Whiskies.

Our first supplier open day is an opportunity for everyone to celebrate and share in the wealth of our great Scottish larder. We are proud of the time and commitment we take to sourcing and selecting our producers to ensure our customers receive the best quality when dining in the restaurant.

And, as extra special ingredients to celebrate the day, we will also be joined by Scotland’s own Ian Rankin, who will launch The Scottish Cafe & Restaurant’s new house ale, Reverend’s Reward, brewed by Caledonian Brewery, and be on hand with esteemed food writer, Sue Lawrence for book signings.
