Salsify Special!

We’ve had a special delivery from our friends at Phantassie in East Lothian. New season organic salsify will be gracing our restaurant menu for the next few days! Roasted and served as our vegetable of the day – come in, try and enjoy for yourself!

Are you familiar with salsify? Low in calories, and with a flavor slightly reminiscent of artichoke. As far back as ancient times, the Greeks were eating this vegetable which they knew as “goat’s beard,” a name that is still used today to refer to wild salsify (along with the picturesque name “jack-go-to-bed-at-noon”!) Olivier de Serres, superintendent of gardens to France’s Henri IV, was the first to recommend its cultivation, as early as 1600

New Season Asparagus!

Local Herb Garden

Our dear friend Robert Wilson of Scotherbs visited us this week to check how our herb garden, where he very kindly donated the herbs last year.

We’re delighted to say it’s blooming. Robert also planted some wild garlic have a sniff the next time you pass!
